If you do the research, Musk took Tesla from a 3 man shop, funded the company entirely by himself for a duration, and when the production cycle began he realized the founder/CEO was not up to the task, which happens often, and fired him. While Musk was effective at fundraising, if you do your homework, you’ll see he had to threaten to raise a debt round (with SpaceX Capital) which would dilute the VC’s and only then did they pony up.
